1.
Hold me my friend in this moment / who knows if again we will meet So much between us has been shared / rarely has time been so sweetly held On aqua and lunar I splutter / as night falls and with it, the rain Dousing our heads in its glitter/ yet we continue our embrace And though your body’s warm / it chills me to think The road that we are on is about to split The last of the fading sunlight / passes abruptly and then We are suspended in darkness / why are things so lovely just before they end? Our bodies turn to stars / mmm / a cosmic reminder of transit It’s never gonna be exactly like that again It’s never gonna be exactly just like that again (repeat)
2.
Would you believe me / if I told you I could take you / anywhere that you wanna go / anytime? There’s not too much to it / step on back and let me show ya how we do it / ooh Fall back and let the wind catch you / float your body through The ocean of vapours and gases surrounding you / sounds good, no? / let’s go! Chorus Out of the city / and into the ether We will find each other / over and over Apart or together / awake or in slumber I’ll meet you my lover / deep in the other / deep in the other Oooh Deep, 20,000 leagues deep / go deep, between our dreams, deep Knee deep / green deep / sea deep / 3D we mean steep Slipping through the cracks now my love / never to come back now my love Taste and see Chorus Out of the city / and into the ether We’ll find each other / over and over and over and over and oh You know I want ya / you know I need ya Out of the city / and into the ether We’ll find each other / over and over and over / over and over and oh You know I want ya / you know I need ya Out of the city / and into the ether Into the ether (repeat)

Nitrogen 01:59
I feel much better when / the stars are out again The moon is my companion / the planets are my friends I love to drown / in their beauty beaming down While their teeny tiny glimmers / send shivers down my spine When you’re in the country you really see the stars
4.
The Essence 05:02
If you could see into my heart / you would see that I love hard / many folks from many paths And the feeling keeps me charged / keeps me bright when it gets dark Keeps me loving, loving hard When I’m up above the clouds / and the sky is all around / I exist without a sound And the silence is profound / but I feel the need to shout / to be loving, loving loud Just look at my heart Chorus Blooming like a flower / after a shower of sweet bountiful rain Bounding like a beast / traversing freely, physical space Shooting like a star / along the path to planets above I will never stop calling love the essence Endlessly we wonder why / we exist here at the same time / and if there’s any point to life And it really makes me smile / when again, again I realise Nothing feels more right (x3) / than to be loving wild Just look at your heart Chorus I will never stop calling love / the essence / the essence I will never stop calling love / the essence / the essence Yeah / yeah The essence

Stars 04:34
When you’re in the country / you really see the stars Shining / glittering / twinkling like shattered glass Smattered vast across the sky / matter past the point of fire From way down here / it could simply be glitter paint Smeared all over a canvas / but you know it ain’t You’re so much smaller than them / those colossal fiery gems Ahhh The night owl sings / and everything’s much Better when / the stars are out again The moon is my companion / the planets are my friends I love to drown / in their beauty beaming down While their teeny tiny glimmers / send shivers down my spine Ahhh When you’re in the country / you really see the stars So bright, you reach your hand / and swipe the surface of Mars Pluck it from the air / flick it over there Kick it through the stratosphere
7.
Expand your potential / extend your arms / and look at your heart
8.
Sunday Best 04:07
I wish I had something / to believe in Like those holy folk / who get the inside joke Who get dressed / in their Sunday Best Tears burning down like rain / father could not be saved His soul went somewhere higher / body to ash and fire Laid to rest / in his Sunday Best Picture of innocence / I climbed the schoolyard fence To meet a boy I knew / he kissed my body blue I confessed / in my Sunday Best
9.
10.
The Torch 02:42
Open your eyes / and follow the light / from clam to clover Opium skies / rising over Under her guide / you’ll never walk alone A kiss from the torch / is brighter than all the lips of Venus Unstiffen your jaw / and receive the blistering warmth She vomits on the earth

about

What’s Mu about? Mu is about everything: Songs about heartbreak and parting share the album with songs marveling at the scale of the universe. Mu is a concept from Zen and Chan Buddhism that means: “nothingness” and also, “pure awareness.” The awareness at the source of all things. In Hannah’s words: “There is so much life in every moment. Endless patterns, algorithms and instances repeating and changing and adapting. Spiraling outwards from the source. What source? The source.” In search of the source, Hannah has composed and arranged an undefinable, cinematic album that leads the listener on a winding path through her imagination.

Sonically as well as thematically, Mu is an album of extremes and lofty ambitions. Fragile and delicate vocal and violin textures contrast with crunchy noisescapes and brooding synthesizers. Hannah’s commanding voice shares the spotlight with a string section and is backed by spacious production featuring many acoustic instruments. Sonically, producer Nick Herrera has brought a reassuring chunkiness to this unplugged palette, in particular the head nodding drums that anchor Hannah’s celestial musings . Like a film soundtrack or a symphony Mu is best listened to and understood as a whole - it circles back to themes and refrains and re-examines them. Sometimes a song is a song, sometimes it’s a soundscape dreaming of a song.

“When making this album, I had a specific concept for how I wanted the music to sound. I don’t mean in terms of genre… it was more of a visceral, sensory concept which I knew I could only realise by allowing myself to experiment and create simultaneously, believing in my rough ideas enough to grow them, to weave them into stories. I began allowing myself to enter and remain in a very heightened state of awareness, which is a state I have continued to pursue and learnt to enjoy ever since. I let my mind dissolve into blackness each day. From there the most wonderful colours can appear. I have decided to call the album “Mu” to signify the empty chasm I allowed to hold within me whilst these songs were born.”
